Abstract

A Register of Asbestos Workers was set up in each Royal Naval Dockyard in 1969 to ensure that the health of those who worked with asbestos was medically supervised at regular intervals.

The examination of this group of workers showed that radiographic, clinical, and lung function abnormalities associated with exposure to asbestos only occurred in the older men who had been exposed before the introduction of strict protective measures.

The results obtained wilt form a valuable base line for the future assessment of these workers.
