Treatment of Gonorrhoea and Non Gonococcal Urethritis with Spiramycin

Abstract

A trial to assess the efficacy of spiramycin in the treatment of gonorrhoea and non-gonococcal urethritis was carried out on board a Royal Navy Frigate on a tour of duty in the Caribbean.

Seventeen men were treated for gonorrhoea with a single dose of spiramycin 2.5 gms. A 64.7 per cent cure rate was achieved. Twenty-one men were treated for non-gonococcal urethritis with spiramycin 2 g/day for five days and a 90.5 per cent cure rate was achieved. No side-effects were encountered.
