The Workings of a Renal Unit
Abstract
This article describes the work of a large Regional Renal Unit. A background to the structure and logistics of such a unit is given along with the type of patients it receives and therapies it can offer. Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) is briefly described, as are the problems associated with it. The aim is to de-mystify the workings of a renal unit and to provide some advice concerning its use by non-nephrologists.
