Primary Irritant Dermatitis from the Manchineel Tree (Hippomane Mancinella) in the Eastern Caribbean

Abstract

Five cases of primary irritant dermatitis following exposure to the Manchineel tree are described and an attempt to discover the nature of the toxin has been made from the existing literature. Exposure occurred during a surveying season in the Eastern Caribbean.
